As humanity progresses towards higher forms of development, enormous amounts of energy are going to be required. In the developing nations, which host most of the human population, this has become an urgent necessity. On a different level, conventional fuel used in rockets and photovoltaic cells used in satellites will not suffice to power mankind’s ambitions in space exploration. This presentation will explain how nuclear energy is the only piece that fits in the energy puzzle of a bright future. Vague and obscure concepts such as breeders, thorium, hormesis, helium mining and linear-non-threshold theory are going to be elucidated.
Speaker Bio: Cuautemoc Reale Hernandez is a nuclear engineer working on a lead-cooled Small Modular Reactor that is intended to be deployed in the Canadian Arctic. He is currently pursuing his PhD at McMaster University and holds a Bachelors in Engineering Physics at the Ecole Polytechnique.
