Plato’s Philebus (on the Purpose of Pleasure and Nature of the Good) Reading Sessions

In this first of a series of workshops introducing Plato’s Philebus, Matt presents a 40 minute overview of the importance of establishing firm standards when passing judgement on Good or Evil. Is pleasure/pain adequate to judge right/wrong? Or is it simply intellect devoid of considerations of pleasure as so many utilitarians have presumed over the centuries? In the Philebus dialogue, Plato’s teacher Socrates tackles these questions and more with a look to the quantized nature of the universe and all ponderable elements within it recognizing that a trifold relationship exists within all things that co-exist as a One, an Infinite and a Many.
