Paolo Sarpi: The Key to Modern Science 
Lecturer: Dr. John Plaice
Bio: John Plaice is a computer scientist and software engineer. He holds a BMath from the University of Waterloo in Canada, and a PhD and a Habilitation degree from the University of Grenoble in France. He has taught in Canadian and Australian universities, and worked in private industry as a professional software engineer. He has conducted research and development, both in industry and in academia, in programming language design, semantics and implementation, software configuration, electronic documents, and natural language processing. He is currently studying the limitations of the mechanical model underlying modern science.

Bio:  Dr Michael Clarage received his PhD in physics from Brandeis University in 1992, studying the biological and statistical behavior of proteins. Prior to that, he spent several years studying binary pulsars at the Arecibo radio telescope. He has given traveling lectures in the areas of fractional calculus, fractals, and chaotic systems as well as presented public talks on such topics as relativity and dimensions, transformation in supernova and metamorphosis in biology. Dr. Clarage is currently a scientist with the SAFIRE Project.

Bio: I began surveying as a rodman 40 years ago in the summer after graduating high school, and was licensed as a New Jersey Professional Surveyor in 1990. I’m self taught in the practical applications of geodesy to support land surveying applications, having performed astro-azimuths routinely on my control traverses during the pre-GPS era, and then mastering the applications of GPS / GNSS from the early post-processing static days, through the early days of RTK, and naturally the current use of RTN/VRS today. I am passionate about mentoring others and helping others gain confidence as they perform tasks incorporating all the latest technology to produce high quality results efficiently and most competitively. I have expertise employing high production methods to incorporate static GNSS vectors, RTN vectors, 3D total station observations, and digital leveling all combined seamlessly to produce control survey networks that form the foundation of small and large projects alike.
